Introduction

Honiton Basics is a course written specifically for distance learning. The course is suitable for people completely new to bobbin lace and to those who already have experience of making bobbin lace.

The course begins with the very first techniques of winding and hitching bobbins and follows a natural progression for learning stitches and techniques, skills and competencies.

Have a look at the range of work to be complete over the course

Honiton Basics has six units and a maximum of two months is allowed for completion of each unit.

There is no set starting time for the course and people can mostly work at their own pace, according to the time they have available to devote to their lacemaking. Two months is the maximum allowed for completion of each unit but people who complete the work more quickly are able to continue on immediately with the next.

Work for Units 1 & 2 is evaluated sample by sample. Evaluation of samples worked for the later units differs according to the complexity of the techniques involved.

Samples are scanned and the images sent to your Tutor for evaluation. The Tutor will make constructive suggestions and comments before you begin working the next sample. A written assessment is provided for each completed unit.

Students may contact their Tutor at any time to ask questions and all questions will be answered within 24 hours.
