Participation Agreement
Torchon Basics covers eight work units: Five units in Part A, and three in Part B.
- Torchon Basics course material has been written specifically for East Midlands Bobbins (with spangles) and domed lace pillows (mushroom/cookie pillow) and is not applicable to other bobbins or pillows. All tuition is premised upon use of this equipment.
Methods of winding and handling bobbins differ according to the type of bobbin and pillow; if you are not using the equipment specified, the instructions will not be appropriate. Instruction is not given for Danish or other ‘Continental’ style of bobbin. If you wish to use bobbins and/or pillow of a type other than that specified, you must already know how to wind, hitch and manipulate the bobbins, and/or use the pillow. Pillows with a central roller and bolster type pillows are inappropriate for this course.
- The recommended maximum time for each participant to complete Torchon Basics Part A is 20 weeks.
Participants are asked to keep to that maximum. Consistent working builds skills. In the early stages of a course people forget the skills very quickly and a break as short as two weeks can cause problems when it comes to remembering approaches and techniques.
- Torchon Basics Part B has no set time limit.
- Participants are expected to work every sample of each unit, unless advised to the contrary.
- Instruction is provided for each unit and participants are expected to work in accordance with those instructions.
Whilst working with the course material for Torchon Basics, participants are expected to use only the instruction and course notes provided and not go to other sources or other people for information or assistance. Teaching methods and terminology differ and LRI should always be the first point of contact when explanation, clarification or assistance is required.
- Where persistent errors are present in the working of samples, participants will be asked to rework part or all of a specified pattern. This additional work must be completed to a satisfactory standard before that unit is deemed to be complete.
- For the purpose of assessing the lace samples completed in each unit, images of the finished samples must be transmitted to LRI by one of the following methods:
A scanned image sent as an e-mail attachment. Fax transmission of a clear photocopy A clear photocopy sent by ordinary mail via the Postal Service. Lace samples sent by ‘Certified Mail’ via the Postal Service (Special Agreement is required for this option).
- An LRI Certificate of Achievement will be offered to participants who complete the course.
- Participants will abide by normal international copyright conditions.
If you are unsure what those conditions cover, please ask for an explanation before accepting this agreement.
- Pre-payment for each work unit is required.
- Upon receipt of a payment you will be provided with a once only Access Key, which will allow you to download all notes for the relevant unit.
